Belgian and American mezzo-soprano, Caroline de Mahieu seduces with the power of her voice, the warmth of her tone and a sincere and committed stage presence. Passionate about literature, she places the text at the heart of her artistic approach and approaches opera, oratorio, lied and melody with the desire to reveal their dramatic force, emotions and richness of vocal colors.
After a degree in letters at the Catholic University of Louvain, she chose to devote herself fully to singing and trained at the IMEP in Namur, notably with Benoît Giaux, Eunice Arias and Ana Camelia Stefanescu, while deepening the lyrical art with Françoise Viatour. Her journey then took her to the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where she consolidated her vocal technique with Marianne Rørholm and Kirsten Buhl Møller. She continued her training within the European Vocal Department in Namur and the MMAcadémie de La Monnaie, and also benefited from masterclasses with artists such as Christophe Rousset, Sandrine Piau, Patricia Ciofi and Dietrich Henschel.
In 2019, Caroline de Mahieu took her first professional steps on the stage of the Opéra of Andorra in Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck. The following year, she joined the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, where she developed a regular collaboration and performed Thibault in Don Carlos, Flora Bervoix in La Traviata, Giovanna in Rigoletto, Rose in Lakmé and Sofia in I Lombardi alla prima crociata. Throughout these productions, she worked under the direction of conductors such as Speranza Scapucci, Daniel Oren, Paolo Arrivabeni and Frédéric Chaslin, and collaborated with directors including John Turturro, Sarah Schinasi, Davide Garattini Raimondi and Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera.
In parallel with her career on the opera scene, she developed an important concert and oratorio activity. With the Chamber Choir of Namur, Concerto Soave, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia and the Camerata Vocale de Bruxelles, she explores a repertoire ranging from Handel, Bach and Mozart to Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, Saint-Saëns and Fauré. She performs notably at the Festival Musical de Namur, at Mars en Baroque, at the Festival Orferidis and at the Midsummer Mozartiade.
Her taste for chamber music led her to found the Ensemble Bleu Miroir in 2018, then to create INE-Duet in 2021. Through these training courses, she develops projects ranging from recitals to family and multisensory concerts, with the desire to renew the encounter between classical music and the public.
Her career is also marked by several distinctions. After a 2nd Prize at the Bell’Arte International Competition in 2016, in 2019 she won the 1st Prize at the Triomphe de l’Art International Competition. In 2024, she received the Orferidis Prize at the Namur International Lyric Art Competition, which led her to embody the historic figure of Thérèse Ganne at the Orferidis Festival in 2025. In 2026, she is a finalist in the Jodie Devos International Lyric Art Competition in Namur.
